The ability and desire to adapt to an environment is a defining characteristic of humanity. Humans are the creators of their world as well as themselves. In Passage, the visual language of machines of transportation is analogous to personal voyage.
At the onset of the creation of a new machine, all that exists is the desire to achieve a goal. Through trial and error, combined with a healthy dose of tenacity, success is achieved. The only way to truly fail is to stop trying. The reward is not always the result. It is in the process.
Between the conception and realization of something tangible or intangible lies a period of time where anything is possible. The only limits are of imagination. That which cannot be fathomed has a power that the understood does not. It is this elusive space between science and magic that drives us. The ship represents this wonder.
Wonder is instinctive, but clarity of purpose defines a life. Just as in the process of invention, there are rare moments when everything comes into focus. There is no confusion of path. This is the passage from chapter to chapter in a personal journey.
